First Mustang Ever Sold!
Now on sale again, seen here. The first Mustang was introduced to the world at the World’s Fair in New York on April 17th, 1964. Ford had been running commercials about its latest model, after the Falcon, on ABC, NBC and CBS. There was quite a bit of excitement around it. Dealers were swamped and continuously sold out. Everyone wanted to be “one of the first”. There is even a story of a man sleeping in his car on the lot until his check cleared. In the first year of production Ford Motors sold almost nearly half a million models. The first 1964 Mustangs ( the one above for example) were priced at an average of $2800 and some change, with some extra options available for $371. This Wimbledon White, 3spd. beauty pictured above is now being sold for $5,500,000.The first models came with 4 different ranges of power. Starting with the base 101 - horsepower,170 - cubic- inch six cylinder to the 4 barrel 289 cubic inch High Performance V-8 with 271 horsepower. The vehicle identification number for the first - ever Mustang was 5F08F100001. First models rolled off the line in March - just in time for dealers to stock showrooms for the April unveiling. This is all interesting information, but what really gets me is the incredible investment a Mustang can be.

Great write-up. I think I’d use my $5.5M to buy a 65 Corvette split-back and 18 Astons, but to each their own.
