1967 Shelby GT 500 SuperSnake

supersnake-back.jpg  Good New!  The 1967 Shelby GT 500 SuperSnake - is on sale at a bargain basement price of $3 million on Ebay!  Think its a bit high? No way honey, its hot and this was the ONLY one of its kind EVER made, ever built - yes - ever.  This car was also driven by Carrol Shelby at a Goodyear test track in Texas for tire promotion and film production… he got it up to 170mph!In 1967 the retail price for the supersnake was $7500!  This was a bit steep for its time and production was halted because there were similar mustangs that could be bought for less.  However - not nearly as fast or hot as this one. 1967shelbysupersnake.jpg

Old VS. New Mustang, which is better?

1965-mustang.JPG1965-mustang-side.JPG2007-ford-gt.JPGToday I had an appointment to see a business associate and as I pulled up to his office - there was no where to park. No where, except directly in back of a bran new 2007 GT Mustang, with black stripes on red paint. So I snuggled my 1965 Mustang right in behind. It was a bit odd, I thought that that was the only place for me to put my car.So then I had to take some pictures. It is very interesting to me to see how the designers really attempted to make the new car look like the originals, but yet strayed pretty far from the original design. Personally I think the classics are a bit more bad - ass - but then I might be biased. In any case, since these pictures show a good comparison I thought I’d post them so people can make up their own mind on which they prefer. By the way, I get free valet parking with my car. I am not sure if they’d do that with the new mustang.

Last Shelby Up For Grabs

1969shelbygt500convertible.jpgOk, not really “for grabs” but Carroll’s last Shelby is going up for auction on January 19th at the Barrett - Jackson auction. They are expecting to break records. The only thing is - well, the car is not totally original. He’s made modifications, Shelby that is, gosh - is anybody going to care? Hmmm, don’t think so - this car is more “Shelby” than any other “Shelby” out there. The modifications started when Shelby had decided to buy one of the last of the 69 -70 run of the GT 500’s, however they didn’t come in his color choices. This car was originally white was repainted in red with white stripes. He also replaced the 5 spoke wheels with 10 spoke wheels which were apparently more to his aesthetic taste. Carroll also added a Police interceptor intake, a prototype “Cobra” big block aluminum oil pan, and Cobra LeMans valve covers. The covers were then too tall for the factory ram- air induction system, so Carroll relaced it with a chrome open element air cleaner. During the 69 - 70 production run of GT500 convertibles there were only 355 of these cars made. It is indeed a high performance vehicle - sporting a legendary 428 Cobra Jet big - block. This particular car has only 69,725 miles on it - at such an age. Wow! The car has been fully restored under the direction of Stephen Becker, famous Shelby Mustang Collector, broker and expert. Restoration was preformed at Jim Cowles’ Shelby Parts & Restoration in Wisconsin. It was virtually rust free and only some minor bumps and bruises were repaired on this car. The car has had one owner for 4 decades - the only other Shelby vehicle he has owned longer is the CSX2000 - which was his first Cobra. This legendary and possibly record setting event will occur on January 19th, 2008, between 5 and 7 p.m. EST. The car is scheduled to appear on main stage as lot number 1287 .

First Mustang Ever Sold!

First Mustang Ever Sold! Now on sale again, seen here. The first Mustang was introduced to the world at the World’s Fair in New York on April 17th, 1964. Ford had been running commercials about its latest model, after the Falcon, on ABC, NBC and CBS. There was quite a bit of excitement around it. Dealers were swamped and continuously sold out. Everyone wanted to be “one of the first”. There is even a story of a man sleeping in his car on the lot until his check cleared. In the first year of production Ford Motors sold almost nearly half a million models. Read the rest of this entry »
